A tragic twist of fate has left a Garland family grieving after a 71-year-old grandmother was killed in a bizarre accident when a car plunged into her apartment on Tuesday. Plautila Aguirre was inside her home near Fieldcrest Drive and Jupiter Road when the incident occurred, as reported by FOX 4 News.
Garland police have pieced together a harrowing sequence of events, starting with a maroon Buick LeSabre that was traveling east on Fieldcrest. The driver is believed to suddenly have had a medical episode that caused them to lose control, first striking a Nissan Altima and then, with terrifying inevitability, continuing to drive straight into Aguirre’s apartment complex.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and hurried Aguirre to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Buick was also taken for medical treatment, sustaining minor injuries, and has since been released. Authorities have indicated cooperation from the driver and, as it stands, no criminal charges are anticipated.
The sorrowful aftermath left Aguirre's daughter, Elda Deleon, grappling with the sudden loss of her mother, whom she remembered. Deleon said, "It's hard. Really hard because nobody is ready for this day." She continued to forever cherish the memory of a woman who "always has a lot of friends" and who generously shared her smile "wherever she's at wherever she goes", according to NBC DFW.
Police are still investigating to fully ascertain the cause of the incident. Meanwhile, the community and the Aguirre family are mourning a life cut short by an unexpected turn of fate, remembering Plautila as a woman whose warmth radiated to all she encountered.
