HAYS COUNTY, Texas – Residents in parts of Hays County were slapped with a boil water notice on Monday, following a mechanical failure at a local water plant amid freezing temperatures, officials said. The West Travis County Public Utility Agency (WTCPUA) acknowledged the fault, leading to low system pressure in the Belterra subdivision.

The advisory, which affects Hays County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 and No. 2 customers, requires water to be boiled before use in drinking, cooking, and ice-making. "The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes." Alternatively, locals can purchase bottled water, or find another clean water source, according to KXAN.

There was initial confusion over the source of the affected neighborhood's water supply, with earlier reports incorrectly citing the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) as the water service provider, a claim that has since been retracted. It has been confirmed that the service is rendered by WTCPUA and not GBRA, as reported by  KVUE.

In the wake of this water woe, Dripping Springs ISD has announced the cancellation of all Tuesday classes, previously scheduled to commence late, due to the water issues. This closure encompasses all district schools, offices, and the DSISD Child Development Center with after-school activities decisions at the secondary level to be communicated by respective coaches, and sponsors. Updates regarding Wednesday's schedule will be provided as soon as they're available. For any inquiries, residents can contact John Montgomery at 281-367-5511.
