Hayward has seen its fair share of crime in the past week, with local police departments releasing the latest blotter detailing a spree of robberies and multiple vehicle thefts, among other incidents. According to the Hayward Police Department's report, officers recorded 51 arrests, 125 reports taken, and 2 complaints against the department from January 14 to January 20, 2024.

The Hayward streets rang with the alarm of 19 vehicle thefts and 5 incidents of larceny from auto. During the same span, cops were summoned for service 1,709 times, with the blotter also showing 13 cases of larceny. In a notable event on January 14, a brazen early morning robbery took place when a suspect brandishing a firearm robbed a business on Hesperian Blvd and vanished on foot.

Vehicle recoveries also dotted the week's crime landscape. On the night of January 15, Hayward police identified an occupied stolen vehicle near A St and Hwy 880, leading to the driver’s arrest. Fast forward to January 20, and a similar scenario unfolded at the intersection of A St and Western Blvd, this time with a narcotics find complicating the crime scene.

Meanwhile, more forceful tactics surfaced in a January 16 robbery where the suspect used force on a business patron on Tampa Ave, proceeded to damage the victim’s car, and fled by car. Southland Dr was the backdrop for yet another robbery on January 19, this one ending with police intercepting the suspect vehicle and detaining two individuals thanks to swift identification by victim business staff.
