Tragedy struck early Sunday morning on the Southwest Freeway in Houston, as a brutal car crash claimed the lives of two young individuals. According to the Houston police department, a 22-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene following a collision that occurred at about 2:15 a.m. near the 9000 block.

Sources say, the unnamed female, presumed to be 23, was behind the wheel of a white Volkswagen Jetta. She slammed into a gray Honda Civic that had been disabled in a traffic lane. The impact sent her flying out of the Jetta. A male passenger from the Honda, who was outside the vehicle at the time, was also hit and killed. Their identities remain unconfirmed as they await verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division, led by Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer C. Moralez, is digging into the circumstances of the incident.

The driver of the Honda, a 22-year-old female, was examined by authorities at the scene and released. Uninjured, and showing no signs of intoxication, her questioning ended with no immediate charges. The crash investigation is still underway as per the latest updates.
