Firefighters in Houston battled a ferocious three-alarm blaze that tore through an apartment complex in West Houston, leaving 20 families without a place to call home. The inferno, which ignited at the Stonehaven at the Galleria Apartments on Skyline Drive, was reported on Wednesday evening, according to FOX 26 Houston. Authorities responded to the scene within a quick five minutes after receiving a 911 call and were to desperately work to contain the flames.
Houston Fire Department officials stated that the blaze, which demanded the presence of 100 firefighters, is now under control. In the aftermath of the fire, both the HFD and the American Red Cross are stepping up to support and look after those affected by this disaster. “We are now working to provide and care for those displaced by the fire,” HFD assistant chief Michael Mire said, in a statement obtained by KHOU 11.
As crews worked through the night, officials urged the public to steer clear of the disaster-stricken area. Grateful for the absence of injuries, firefighters and residents alike have been spared physical harm, as there are no reports of casualties attributable to the fire. The exact cause remains a mystery, under active investigation by authorities.
For those concerned and looking for updates, KHOU 11 News reporter Steven Goin was on the scene and broadcast live footage showing the extent of the damage.
