Three Houston teens are recovering in the hospital following a terrifying highway shootout that erupted on the Southwest Freeway early Friday morning.

The victims, two girls and one boy between the ages 18 and 19 were reportedly driving home from a night of bowling in Humble when a middle-aged Hispanic male in a Toyota Tundra started tailgating their SUV before pulling up alongside them and opening fire; the incident occurred near the Hillcroft exit around 12:20 a.m., with the driver unharmed and rushing them to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, as details shared by FOX 26 Houston indicated.

According to a report by ABC 13, one of the teens, a 19-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and is in critical condition, while the two young women in the vehicle were hit in the knee and foot respectively. The investigation is ongoing as Houston police work to apprehend the shooter, whom the teen driver could only describe as a middle-aged Hispanic man, possibly accompanied by a passenger in the Tundra.

"It doesn't seem like there were a lot of words exchanged. All of a sudden, our driver pulled out a pistol and started shooting into their car, several rounds, five to six went into their car," Lt. R. Willkens said in an interview. Authorities continue their search for the assailant, urging anyone with information to come forward.
