A multi-vehicle crash on Cape Cod has claimed the life of a 53-year-old Hyannis man and injured another, according to Barnstable police. The incident took place around 1:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon at Bearses Way. Officers who responded to the scene found several vehicles off the roadway, one of which had collided with a fire hydrant before striking a tree, as Boston 25 News reported.
The 53-year-old driver was one of two people treated by officers for serious injuries sustained during the crash. Both were transported to Cape Cod Hospital, where the 53-year-old man was pronounced dead. The second driver, a 58-year-old Plymouth man, was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, as per a Boston Globe statement. A third vehicle was also involved after running over scattered debris from the the crash, but its driver was not injured.
At this time, police have not released any additional information regarding the cause of the catastrophe.
