The Keller Police Department is offering civilians a peek behind the badge with its Citizens Police Academy. As reported on January 18, all your law and order buffs can now sign up to learn what it takes to enforce the peace.
Beginners in blue can expect an 11-week program, starting February 15, that delves into the heart of the Keller PD's operations, a civilian crash course in everything from rapid responses to school security. The classes will run weekly, every Thursday from 6-9 p.m., at the department headquarters, located at 330 Rufe Snow Dr. This isn't for felons or anyone who's had a run-in with the law in recent times – applicants must be clean for the past five years, and, over 21, according to the City of Keller.
If you're in Keller or Westlake, with a spotless record, you've got a shot at snagging one of the 20 seats – first come, first served. But don't dawdle, once they're filled, it's the waiting list for you, and who knows when the next session might be. For those itching to put their newfound knowledge into practice, completion of this academy is a mandatory step before joining the Volunteers in Police Services unit.
