La Porte Independent School District is kicking off the new year with shovels hitting the dirt at the future site of Bulldog Stadium and Bulldog Development Center. During a ceremony on January 13, La Porte ISD Board of Trustees, together with the superintendent and local residents, celebrated the commencement of this long-awaited project. Playing it as significant, Board President Danny Hanks stated, "Today marks a new chapter for La Porte ISD and the La Porte community as a whole," according to a district report.
The upgrade comes after voters took to the polls back in May 2023, giving a thumbs-up to a hefty $235M bond. The plan is to boldly feature a replacement for the aging stadium and to create the Bulldog Development Center, a swanky new multipurpose space. Chris Murdock, a key former Board member who backed the bond proposal’s ballot presence, joined in the groundbreaking festivities.
Bulldog Stadium isn't just getting a facelift; the renovation includes modern accessibility upgrades, an eight-lane track, and an observation deck poised to breathe new life into district athletic and band events. The track expansion will also let the district to play host to UIL-sanctioned meets, a boon for local sports enthusiasts.
"As stewards of education in La Porte ISD, we recognize the importance of investing in our facilities to create an environment where students can thrive academically and athletically," Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson conveyed. He sees the groundbreaking as more than a symbolic dig – it's a pivotal move in the school district's mission to outdo itself when it comes to educational resources, as detailed by the La Porte ISD press release.
