The Los Angeles Fire Department was called into action early Thursday morning to combat a significant blaze that ravaged a vacant commercial building in University Park, as first reported by Hoodline. The fire, which began before dawn at around 2:24 AM, presented firefighters with a challenging fight as the flames violently engulfed the second floor of the 150' x 200' two-story structure located at 806 W Adams Blvd.
Firefighting teams worked desperately to gain control of the situation and it wasn't until approximately two hours later the LAFD pronounced the fire knocked down, after which they continued their battle against hotspots that persisted, threatening to reignite the flames, the LAFD Alert reports this extreme effort made it possible to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings. No immediate reports of injuries surfaced as emergency personnel canvassed the scene.
Following an exhaustive search effort throughout the charred remains, which included removing a significant volume of water from the building's large basement, it was confirmed by LAFD ALERT that the body of a middle-aged man was discovered. His identity and the circumstances leading to his death remain to be determined by the Medical Examiner.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the authorities, as they're digging through the debris in search of clues.
