A 22-year-old man has been nabbed following a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of Juan Jose Garcia in Lauderhill last month. The suspect, identified as Rodnerd Belizaire, stands accused of leaving the grim scene where a man was left lying on the street, later pronounced dead, according to Local 10 News.
Lauderhill PD were summoned to the 3500 block of West Sunrise Boulevard at about 7:30 p.m. on the night of Dec. 20, upon receiving distress calls about a man requiring urgent medical help. Having been found by first responders, Garcia, 46, faced a fate sealed by severe injuries, consistent with a vehicular strike, a narrative pieced together by the investigators in the wake of his passing.
Belizaire was apprehended on Dec. 29 and is facing charges for fleeing the scene of a crash involving death, tampering with physical evidence, and driving with a suspended license. As per Friday's report by Local 10 News, he is detained at the Joseph V. Conte Facility, with bond set at a sum of $101,500.
The Lauderhill police, relentless in their pursuit of justice, had been on the lookout for the driver who, now identified, was linked to the vehicle responsible for Garcia's untimely demise. Members of the community were initially beseeched by police via CBS Miami to aid in serving the cause of justice with any knowledge that could have cornered Belizaire — a call that may have been instrumental in the sifting of fact from the fiction that a hit-and-run often leaves in its wake.
