
Chaos ensued at Mountainside Middle School after a student discovered a loaded gun on the classroom floor, prompting a three-hour lockdown yesterday afternoon. According to ABC15, the incident caused no injuries but left parents and students rattled as they waited for the police to give the all-clear.
Upon receiving the alert, Scottsdale Police swept through the school, searching for other potential threats. During the search, the school resource officer confirmed the handgun's presence. As reported by FOX10 Phoenix, details emerged that the authorities interviewed students potentially connected to the gun while the school remained in lockdown.
The dramatic afternoon unfolded into the evening when, overnight, the police arrested an 11-year-old boy in connection with the incident, as both FOX10 Phoenix and ABC15 revealed. The minor faces serious charges including minor prohibited from possessing firearms, possessing deadly weapons on school grounds, and recklessly handling deadly weapons.
Reassurances were given to the community that this was an isolated incident, with the school officials and police stressing there is no threat to the public. The lockdown was lifted after the extensive search, and students were released from the school grounds ten minutes after the usual time, as confirmed by the authorities.
