A deputy from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office shot a teenager during a confrontation involving a stolen car earlier this week, as confirmed in a news release from the agency. The incident occurred Monday morning near 11 a.m. when a deputy, using the Flock Safety surveillance system, pinpointed the stolen vehicle and attempted to pull it over.

The car chase came to a head in the 800 block of West Grenada Terrace, Macon where the deputy found the vehicle occupied by several individuals who fled upon stopping, according to reports from Hoodline. Amid the ensuing chaos, one suspect brandished a firearm and opened fire on the deputies, triggering a shootout that resulted in 17-year-old Jordan Rozier being struck in the arm.

Paramedics were quick to treat Rozier at the scene before rushing him to Atrium Navicent Health, said the Sheriff's Office, his condition was deemed stable after the treatment. Post-recovery, Rozier was taken into custody, as per the information divulged by FOX 5 Atlanta. No deputies were injured during the shootout.

In the aftermath of the gunfire, more individuals were taken in for questioning, with Sheriff David Davis noting to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "They were younger individuals," continuing with, "One of the occupants ran to one of the apartments just behind where vehicle stop happened. And there were some individuals in that particular apartment that have been taken in for questioning." The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has since been called to lead the investigation into the shooting, meanwhile, the Sheriff's Office's Internal Affairs is also conducting its own internal investigation to examine the appropriateness of the deputies' response in the situation.
