A 4-year-old boy was left with severe head and facial injuries in Nashua, and a week later, the man allegedly responsible has been nabbed in Maine, authorities disclosed. According to NBC Boston, first responders rushed to the scene of the medical emergency on Jan. 19 where the young victim was discovered.
After identifying 25-year-old Jose Gurley as the primary suspect in the vicious assault, Nashua detectives worked alongside Maine State Police to trace his whereabouts, which led them to Cornish, Maine, where they spotted a vehicle associated with Gurley parked at a local residence. Officials said a court-approved search ensued on Jan. 26, culminating in Gurley's arrest, the stoic proceedings contrasting the chaotic chase that spanned state lines.
Gurley, having been detained without incident, is presently confined at the York County Jail, awaiting extradition proceedings that will see him return to New Hampshire to face charges. As confirmed by WMUR, the Nashua Police Department has charged him with first-degree assault, though further details regarding the events leading to the boy's injuries or Gurley's connection to the child remain sparse.
While Gurley's legal representation is presently unknown, the caught suspect is set to be hurdled back to New Hampshire where he will confront the legal ramifications of his alleged actions – police encourage anyone with pertinent information to come forward and contact the crime line at 603-589-1665. The Nashua community, rocked by the brutality inflicted upon one of its youngest members, is seeking answers as they rally in support of the boy's recovery, and await the due process of justice.
