A mother was tragically killed and her daughter critically injured in Apache Junction this past weekend when a man driving the wrong way on US 60 collided head-on with their vehicle. The suspect in the incident, identified as 37-year-old Adam Parker, has been arrested and charged with several serious offenses.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the accident occurred Saturday night around 9:50 p.m. after authorities received multiple reports of Parker's erratic driving. Witnesses reported that the blue truck he was operating was "all over the road" and soon after, began traveling in the wrong direction.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed that the other vehicle involved, a small sport utility vehicle, was driven by Elizabeth McAloon, 28, of Apache Junction, who had her 7-year-old daughter with her. Shortly after being rushed to a trauma center, McAloon was pronounced dead, leaving behind an injured child who remained hospitalized with serious, though non-life-threatening injuries. As for Parker, he survived with serious injuries, which he received treatment for before being booked into jail. Charges against him include second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and child abuse.
As per information obtained by azfamily.com, the road was closed overnight as the investigation took place, and it was reopened around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. DPS is investigating impairment as a possible factor in the devastating crash, which has now become a matter of public record and a source of immense grief for the Apache Junction community.
