A man is fighting for his life after being shot in a daylight ambush while seated in his car in Chicago's Archer Heights neighborhood.
The 32-year-old victim was sitting in his vehicle on the 4500 block of W. 47th Street around 3:56 p.m. on Sunday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports, when another car pulled up next to him and without warning, an occupant opened fire, piercing the calm of the afternoon with gunshots and sending bystanders into a state of alarm. The man was struck by bullets in the neck and chest and was subsequently rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The authorities have not yet apprehended the shooter, and the reasons behind this violent encounter are still obscured in the chaotic aftermath that follows such an act of aggression. As per the Chicago Police Department, the incident unfolded in a manner all too common in a city wrestling with the specter of gun violence, yet each occurrence leaves a rippling effect on the fabric of the community.
According to information obtained by FOX 32 Chicago, the victim was alone in his car when the assailant, also in a vehicle, engaged in this brutal drive-by.
As detectives continue their investigation, they appeal to the public for any leads that might illuminate the circumstances of the shooting and aid in the capture of the individual responsible for this crime
