A vicious assault left a man critically injured after he was savagely attacked by masked assailants wielding a knife and a bat in Medley, authorities reported. The bloodshed unfolded yesterday evening when the unnamed victim, coming off of his workday, was blindsided by two ski-masked men as he tried to get into his car, according to NBC Miami.
The Medley Police Department rushed to the 9000 block of Northwest 105th Way past 6 p.m. in response to an alert of a shooting at the scene. They discovered the man with a severe facial wound, inflicted by one of the brutes who used a knife to viciously carve into his visage, while his accomplice used a bat to brutally beat him. In a desperate move to possibly save his own life, the victim managed to take out his gun and fire multiple shots at his attackers, prompting them to escape in a red four-door getaway vehicle, as WSVN reported.
The injured man was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center, where he was listed in stable but critical condition. Medley Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue teams responded to the chaotic incident, with police now searching for at least three suspects, including the two who conducted the attack and the driver of the waiting red car. It was not immediately clear if any of the culprits were hit by the victim's gunfire.
"The victim was leaving work, approaching his vehicle. At that time, he was approached by two males wearing ski masks," Medley Police Officer Deglys Chavarria told WSVN. "One of the males produced a knife; another male produced the bat. A confrontation occurred. One of the suspects injured the victim by cutting him in the face, while the other one struck him with the bat in his body." There's an ongoing high-stakes effort to track down and arrest the perpetrators involved in this chilling episode of violence. Officer Chavarria pointed out the rarity of such brutal acts in Medley, and promises they are working tirelessly to "do our best to bring these subjects to justice."
While the motive behind the ambush remains a mystery under active investigation, authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information related to the gruesome attack. Informants can anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS to provide tips, potentially helping to net the violent felons responsible for this brazen act.
