
A leisurely stroll through a Phoenix park turned deadly when a man was crushed by a falling palm tree on Thursday afternoon, local authorities report. The tragic incident took place at Highline Park, situated just south of Baseline Road on 12th Street, where a man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was walking with a companion. According to azfamily.com, the palm tree came down abruptly, trapping the victim underneath.
The Phoenix police officers rushed to the scene after receiving reports of an injured person near the intersection of 16th Street and Dobbins Road in south Phoenix. Upon arrival, they discovered the man pinned under the large tree, unable to free himself. Despite the rapid response from the Phoenix Fire Department, who worked to extricate the man by cutting the tree, he succumbed to his injuries on the spot. As reported by 12News, the individual accompanying the deceased was unharmed in the incident.
An ongoing investigation seeks to clarify whether a windstorm might be to blame for the freak accident, with wind gauge data indicating gusts hitting up to 45 mph on Thursday, located about 3 miles from where the accident occurred.
