A tragic incident unfolded on a busy Irving highway on Monday night, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The man was hit by at least three vehicles while trying to dart across the westbound lanes of State Highway 183. The incident provoked a shutdown of the highway as emergency services converged on the scene, according to WFAA.
Irving police have confirmed the man was first struck while running toward the eastbound lanes and then hit by two more vehicles in a catastrophic sequence of events. Despite the efforts to quickly attend to the situation, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the person has yet to be revealed, as police continue to thoroughly investigate the circumstances under which this grievous mishap took place.
Following the accident, the westbound lanes of SH 183 were closed at Esters Road. The roadblock, which began around 9:40 p.m. on Monday, led to substantial traffic delays and detours as the officials carried out on-site operations, as per NBC DFW report.
Eyewitnesses, along with the drivers involved, were stopped to provide statements to piece together how this accident unfolded. While many vehicles were involved in the incident, no other injuries have been reported at this time. Irving police stressed the importance of taking caution when near or attempting to cross busy highways, especially at night when visibility is naturally reduced.
