A deadly crash in San Marcos has claimed the life of a man early New Year's Day. The male driver, whose identity remains undisclosed pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle slammed into a traffic signal pole. Authorities were dispatched shortly after 6:00 a.m. to the intersection of South Santa Fe Avenue and North Rancho Santa Fe Road, where they discovered the wreckage of a white truck.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating the solo crash, endeavoring to firmly establish the cause. The truck, according to early reports, was traveling northbound on North Rancho Santa Fe Road and was making a turn onto S. Santa Fe Avenue when it struck the pole. At this stage, it remains uncertain if the crash was due to a medical issue, the influence of drugs, or alcohol involvement. Sergeant C. Morreale told the Sheriff's San Marcos Station, "We are looking into all possible factors that might have contributed to this tragic incident."

The Medical Examiner's Office is tasked with the identification of the deceased and will be determining the precise cause and manner of his death.
