Matthew Espinoza, a name well-recognized in the San Antonio entrepreneurial scene, has taken the helm of Launch SA, a city-supported program dedicated to bolstering local small businesses and startups. As reported by Community Impact, San Antonio officials had already given the green light for a $1.7 million, three-year agreement with Geekdom, to manage Launch SA. Espinoza, former director of programs at Geekdom, boasts over a decade of experience in fostering the city's business climate and now, takes on his new role with gusto.
Housed at the San Antonio Central Library, Launch SA is not merely a hub for workshops and networking. It's also a conduit for connecting entrepreneurs with financial sources and educational tools necessary for their trade. "Since 2014, Launch SA has been an important resource for our small-business community, and we look forward to continuing the work and building new programming," Espinoza conveyed in a statement obtained by KSAT. Launch SA's latest partnership with Geekdom aims to synchronize the entrepreneurial spirit across San Antonio's diverse community sectors.
During an interview on a local Sunday morning segment, Espinoza outlined the organization's strategy for the invigoration of small businesses, by providing a resource center for both budding entrepreneurs and established small business owners facing challenges. Launch SA, operating for nearly a decade now, has recently turned its focus to helping businesses navigate the post-COVID-19 landscape, a reality that has reshaped the commercial environment drastically.
Under Espinoza's guidance, Launch SA aims to strengthen its connection to local universities such as UTSA, St. Mary’s, and Trinity, aiding entrepreneurial students to envision a future beyond the confines of their academic lives. "What’s really more powerful is the networking with the local business community," Espinoza told KSAT. This synergy, between academic learning and real-world application, is touted as a significant opportunity for students to either dive into the business landscape or ply their trade under the tutelage of experienced business owners.
Looking ahead, Espinoza is set to steer Launch SA through an array of enhancements, particularly by utilizing a $30,000 allocation from American Rescue Plan Act funds earmarked to improve the organization’s infrastructure. Meanwhile, the inaugural Geekdom event under the new partnership umbrella, a Shop & Learn Holiday Market, was a free public affair featuring panel discussions with local buyers and entrepreneurs, underlining the collaborative vision Espinoza and Geekdom share for San Antonio's commercial future.
