A quiet evening in Mesquite was shattered when bullets flew on New Year's Eve, leaving an adult male and a young child wounded in what appears to be a case of mistaken identity, authorities say. The Mesquite Police Department reported that officers were called to the 1600 block of Springwood Drive around 7:07 P.M. on December 31, finding two victims struck by gunfire; an adult male with a neck wound and a child with a head injury, neither injuries being life-threatening.
The chaos ensued as officers, while en route to Springwood Drive, received notice of another shooting incident on Arial Drive. Here a motorist discovered his vehicle peppered with bullet holes after driving past the initial shooting scene. Drawing a stark line between the tranquil life most Mesquite residents know and the violent interlude that can still break through. The shootings seemed to be unconnected to the victims, suggesting a dark narrative of random violence that placed an innocent child and adult in the crosshairs, as per the Mesquite Police Department.
Investigators are digging into the night's violent disturbances, with the city's streets becoming an unlikely crime scene. The inquiry is ongoing and further details will emerge as the puzzle pieces fit together. If anyone knows these crimes, they have been urged to come forward and reach out to the local authorities or contact Investigator A. Soto directly.
