A Miami-Dade tire shop owner is behind bars facing an attempted murder charge after cops say he shot a landscaper during a dispute over yard debris. According to NBC Miami, the incident took place after leaves were blown onto the property of P&P Auto Tire Shop, located at 1550 NW 79th St.
The owner, Claudio Arrendell, was arrested following the altercation that left the landscaper in critical condition. During a court appearance on Saturday, the judge ordered that Arrendell be held without bond. The altercation began after the landscaper, who was working across the street, blew leaves onto Arrendell’s property, as Local 10 reported.
Police said that around 12:35 p.m. Friday, the victim found himself under gunfire as he tried to flee following a brief exchange with Arrendell. Two shots were fired from a revolver Arrendell allegedly pulled from his ankle, striking the landscaper, who was later rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. An arrest report revealed this account and specified that the victim was sitting in his vehicle when the conflict erupted.
The business owner would later claim to police that the victim had pulled a machete on him and punched him before the shooting. However, officials stated that surveillance footage from the scene contradicted his account. This isn't the first confrontation Arrendell has had with the law; in 2002, he was arrested for aggravated battery on a pregnant victim, though the charge was later reduced and subsequently dropped, according to court records obtained by Local 10.
Now, as Arrendell faces a severe charge of attempted premeditated first-degree murder, the community is left grappling with the stark reality of violence over what appears to be a trivial neighborhood dispute gone horrifically awry. The case continues to unfold as investigations proceed, leaving the public to wonder about the boundaries of self-defense and where exactly the line is drawn in matters of property quarrels escalating to life-threatening situations.
