A Miami-Dade woman has found herself on the wrong side of the law, accused of operating an unlicensed recovery home for cosmetic surgery patients. Yudania Gomez-Reinoso, 44, was taken into custody yesterday facing multiple charges, including the operation of an assisted living facility without a license and violation of Florida's litter law, among others. According to Local 10, the makeshift facility, known as Wow Recovery, was discovered by Miami-Dade Police after investigating a tip-off about its operations at 1790 Northwest 109th Street.
In providing what was believed to be post-operative care, Gomez-Reinoso reportedly charged her patients—of which at least five were found at the home—rates between $200 and $300 per night. They received various services 'helping them with personal hygiene, bathing, dressing, and even transportation, reported a statement obtained by NBC Miami. During the police search on Tuesday, medical waste was found discarded improperly, including bandages, gowns, and other hazardous materials, some saturated with biological waste like fecal matter and blood.
Gomez-Reinoso, a Cuban national, was also discovered to have been "illegally dumping human medical waste of a hazardous and biologically dangerous nature," as per Local 10's coverage. The refuse, found in regular white trash bags, lacked the necessary labeling that flags medical waste, thereby, the police claim, posing a "credible and actual biological hazard to the well-being and safety of the public.”
While under investigation, Gomez-Reinoso told authorities she thought the property was licensed. Following her arrest, she was booked into jail and later released on bond, as per details shared by NBC Miami. At this time, no information regarding her legal representation has been made available. The investigation into the full extent of the operation and the conditions within the home is ongoing.
