
In a distressing event in Miami-Dade County, a 6-year-old boy was compelled to call 911 after his mother abandoned him and his 2-year-old brother alone in what officers described as a filthy home. The children were discovered without adult supervision, in a residence lacking basic amenities, including power and food, on Wednesday night around 9 pm, according to Local 10 News.
The responding officers reportedly uncovered a dire situation wherein the two young boys were found without supervision, in a home described as "very dirty." They also stated that the children themselves appeared unwashed. The Miami Dade Police endeavored to contact the mother, Demetria Antwonette Spencer, 25, utilizing a phone number provided by her son, although, she did not respond to their calls.
It was not until 1:30 a.m. on Thursday that officials from the Florida Department of Children and Families arrived at the premises to intervene. After hours of searching, authorities finally located Spencer at around 2:20 p.m. the next day and proceeded with her arrest on two counts of child neglect with no great bodily harm, reported by Baller Alert.
Investigators had been striving to locate Spencer for hours, after which, the mother was finally apprehended on Thursday afternoon and taken into custody. The Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center confirmed that Spencer remained incarcerated on a $5,000 bond, along with an additional warrant for lacking a valid driver's license, according to jail records. There has been no statement from Spencer regarding the allegations against her as of the report.
