
Miami authorities are ramping up their efforts to find a hit-and-run suspect accused of striking a cyclist in Little Havana last month. The City of Miami Police, with the backup from the community, are on the lookout for a dark-colored SUV whose driver is accused of hitting 49-year-old Zoinel Pavon Lopez and fleeing the scene.
The incident unfolded on December 17, 2023, at around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of West Flagler Street and 27th Avenue. According to WSVN, preliminary investigations suggest the SUV was southbound on 27th Avenue when it collided with Lopez, who was crossing the street. The driver then fled without stopping to render aid to the injured cyclist.
Surveillance video of the crash has been released by the police in a concerted effort to track down the driver. The disturbing footage shows an a touching moment of impact, which sent the victim to the hospital with critical injuries. As per information obtained from Local 10, Lopez remains hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Police have described the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored SUV, likely to have damage to the driver's side front. In their appeal to the public, law enforcement is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification of the culprit.
