Minneapolis has found itself at the center of a startling weapon discovery as Hennepin County Sheriff's deputies retrieved what is typically an instrument of war from a local home. The deputies announced they unearthed a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) inside the residence while carrying out a search warrant. This occurred during an operation targeting a fugitive and associated firearm possession.
The raid didn't just stop with finding the RPG. Inside the Minneapolis home, authorities also stumbled upon two handguns—one of which boasted an auto sear, according to FOX9. There was additional contraband, as investigators found "a quantity of fentanyl powder," further complicating the scene that unfolded during the search.
However, the scare associated with the RPG was somewhat alleviated when deputies confirmed that the round accompanying the weapon was inert, stripping it of its explosive potential. This information sought to assure an already tense community that there was no immediate risk of detonation.
Following the search, two men have been put in cuffs, but the Hennepin County Attorney's Office is holding back on pressing charges. Additional testing and investigations are in the works, as reported by CBS News Minnesota. The Minneapolis Police Department Bomb Squad and the Minnesota National Guard also aided in the sensitive operation, considering the nature of the weapons involved.
