As per FOX9's coverage, the annual event, initiated by Kathryn Ringham and her compatriot Mickey O’Kane, witnessed participation from 84 homes, bolstering a fundraiser for the Domestic Abuse Project. Ringham, echoing the neighborhood's commitment, stated, "I’m just so proud of our neighborhood that it can activate and coordinate like this". Normally slated for Christmas Eve, the event's shift to New Year’s Eve this year was due to unseasonal rainfall.
This civic gesture turned fiscal boon has amassed over $50,000 thus far for the aforementioned charity. The proceeds aim to empower the Domestic Abuse Project, a beacon for those affected by domestic violence.
The Domestic Abuse Project's website reveals the Dupont Luminaries' legacy of advocacy and financial support that dates back to 2003. With a storied history that includes a touching compendium of $34,000 amassed for the cause, the initiative’s impact is substantial. "We are so grateful for all of these neighbors, and for Mickey and Kathryn, who organize the event every year," the statement said, extending an invitation to visitors to experience the luminaria for themselves and to dwell upon the broader social implication – the fight against domestic violence and the support for those in its midst.
