A Florida man accused of playing cop has posted bail. After law enforcement arrested him for conducting a bogus traffic stop in Pembroke Pines, Davonte Thompson, a 29-year-old from Miramar, walked out of Broward County Jail yesterday, according to a report by WSVN.
The self-appointed enforcer was nabbed after pulling over a motorist in a TD Bank parking lot, authorities said Thompson, who was driving an SUV, had allegedly flashed a stolen badge from Louisiana and had the chutzpah to dial 911 himself to report a "reckless driver," in his own form of street justice—he claimed the stunt was to get an erratic motorist off the road, “I got in an accident a long time ago, and, you know, people that just drive reckless and crazy, I mean, honestly, I mean, I don’t want to get this done again,” Thompson said in a statement obtained by WSVN.
His gambit fell apart when the Pembroke Pines Police arrived and quickly discerned Thompson was no cop Thompson was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer, and his court appearance followed yesterday morning, where according to WSVN, the judge acknowledged his clean record but required a mental health evaluation on top of the $2,500 bond.
Thompson tried to keep reporters at bay when he was released; "I don't know what the police is accusing that they found, but no further questions," he stated, repeating the phrase when pressed by Local 10 News' Christian De La Rosa about his claims and the stolen badge "No further questions," and "Obviously not," were his replies to allegations of impersonating an officer and possessing a stolen badge, as Local 10 News reported.
The authorities are concerned that there may be more victims of Thompson's imitation game the police are urging anyone who thinks they might have been unlawfully stopped by him to come forward, asking the public to contact them at 954-431-2200, this according to his Wednesday court appearance dupe tactics.
