Relief swept through the community as the Plano Police Department announced the safe location of a missing 61-year-old woman, Ms. Hughes. The police found Ms. Hughes "safe and sound" on Monday after an intensive search that spanned several days, according to the Plano Texas Police Department.
The search began after Ms. Hughes was reported missing early Sunday morning. Police indicated that she left her group home located at the 1900 block of Baffin Bay Dr. voluntarily around 06:30 am. The missing person's alert described her as a thin, white female with blonde hair, last seen wearing a large green jacket and black pants. Due to a recent medical diagnosis, officials noted a heightened concern for her well-being, and despite their efforts which included the use of drones, they initially could not locate her.
Investigators issued a DPS CLEAR Alert and deployed multiple resources in their search for Ms. Hughes. "Our officers have searched several locations and used a drone to look for her, but we have not found her yet," the department explained. They also ensured the public that they added her information to the national database and would continue the search until they located her, as per the Plano Texas Police Department.
Community response played a pivotal role in the search as the department thanked the public for sharing the message. In the announcement of her discovery, which came approximately 24 hours after the initial report, they posted, "THANK YOU, everyone, once again, for sharing our message!" The DPS CLEAR Alert has since been deactivated, closing a brief but intense chapter of communal anxiety and cooperation, per the Plano Texas Police Department.
Police have not released details regarding the circumstances of how or where Ms. Hughes was found. The case, associated with incident number 24-015164, underscores the effectiveness of citizen collaboration in resolving missing persons cases.
