Hitting a high note in Garfield Park, the beloved Black-owned Momentum Coffee has unfurled its latest venture: a cozy pop-up café nestled within the Garfield Park Conservatory. Visitors looking to savor a rich latte accompanied by lush greenery can now head to Horticulture Hall, where the café officially sprung into action Friday morning, according to a statement obtained by Block Club Chicago.
Founded by Nikki Bravo and Tracy Powell in 2020, Momentum Coffee has rapidly become a household name with its inviting locales spread across South Loop, Millennium Park, Englewood, North Lawndale, and Austin. Engaging the community has always been served alongside aromatic coffee and pastries at the company's various locations. The temporary setup in the conservatory will operate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday, welcoming guests to bask in the merger of coffee culture with botanic splendor. The conservatory took to its Facebook page to announce the energizing collaboration, praising the brand's journey and inviting patrons to support "this inspirational West Side Black- and family-owned business", as shared in their post here.
Since their inaugural cafe took root in the bustling heart of Chicago's South Loop district, Powell and Bravo's quest to create areas of congregation and connection over quality coffee has been unwavering. From a spokeswoman at the conservatory, the statement relayed through Block Club Chicago highlighted the impactful arrival: "Their shared passion for coffee and community ignited the idea of creating a space where people could connect over exceptional brews." Yet, for the newer chapters of their expansion story, Powell and Bravo remain beyond reach for direct comments.
The Austin location's addition in August marked the latest permanent installment for Momentum Coffee, distinguished by its smaller stature in comparison to the airy North Lawndale venue inaugurated last April.
