Boston's MSPCA Law Enforcement is on the hunt for the owner of a severely neglected dog, found in a harrowing condition last Wednesday. Desperate for tips, they've joined forces with Brookline Animal Control to uncover who's responsible for the young Golden Retriever-mix's abuse. The pooch, affectionately named "Brooke," was discovered on the brink of starvation near Newton and Clyde Streets in Brookline, as reported by MSPCA.

The dog was immediately whisked away to Angell Animal Medical Center, where she was to begin a painstaking recovery. In a statement obtained by MSPCA, Mike Keiley, VP of the MSPCA-Angell's Animal Protection Division, said, "This dog was in bad shape when she came to us." He detailed that Brooke scored a one on the health scale, marking her as extremely emaciated when a score of five represents ideal body weight.

Despite the gravity of her condition, hope glimmers for the affectionate canine. MSPCA staff have noted Brooke's gentle nature, and her health has been cautiously stabilizing since her rescue. She was placed on a rigorous refeeding program and is expected to soon leave the hospital. "We're optimistic that she may be able to leave the hospital early this week," Keiley conveyed.

While Brooke's resilience has touched many, MSPCA Law Enforcement and Brookline Animal Control are determined to seek justice. They're issuing a call for the public to step up with any information that may help to conclusively find and penalize the dog's former owner. "It’s always hard to see loving animals like Brooke suffer so much," Keiley added, reflecting the urgency to solve the mystery of Brooke's past. Concerned individuals can contribute any leads via email to Brookline Animal Control at [email protected], or directly to MSPCA Law Enforcement at mspca.org/tip or call at (617) 522-6008 or (800) 628-5808.

For those moved by Brooke's plight and wishing to follow her recovery, updates will be posted on the MSPCA's social media pages. The organization is steadfast in their efforts to protect animals like Brooke and to hold accountable those who fail to provide the care and compassion that all living creatures deserve.
