A month-long investigation has resulted in the arrest of a Wauconda man by Naperville Police for alleged cocaine sales. Aaron J. Koonce, 24, was apprehended in a parking lot on Illinois Route 59 at around 3 p.m. last Thursday, according to a statement from the Naperville Police Department.
Charged with multiple drug-related offenses, including a Class X felony, police nabbed Koonce alongside Kenny A. Navarrete, 29, who during the arrest was allegedly discovered with both cocaine and a loaded handgun. Navarrete, hailing from Island Lake, faces an armed violence charge, which is also a Class X felony. Complicating the matter further, police arrested a third individual, a 29-year-old man from Wauconda, found driving with a suspended license at the time driving the vehicle where Koonce and Navarrete were detained.
While Koonce is facing two counts of Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance as well as a count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Navarrete's legal troubles compound with the addition of a cocaine possession charge. The incidents leading up to these charges took place amidst the routine flow of suburban life, in a location often filled with the comings and goings of local commerce.
The Naperville Police Department has, after making the arrest, issued a reminder to the community that these charges remain allegations. Both Koonce and Navarrete hold the presumption of innocence—a bedrock principle—until their guilt or innocence is duly proven in a court of law. As for the driver, the misdemeanor charge adds another narrative layer, albeit lesser in severity, to the unfoldings of that January afternoon.
