Arlington residents, get ready to roll: A new automated trash cart system is heading your way starting next month. The City of Arlington, in partnership with Republic Services, is ditching the old-school bagged trash collection for a modernized, cart-based service slated to launch this February. New 95-gallon carts will be delivered according to a schedule that promises efficiency despite the hefty task of distributing over 100,000 units, according to the City of Arlington, Texas.
With the wheels of change in motion, the new system will simplify trash day so all collections – trash, recycling, yard waste, and bulky items – will happen on the same day. Kiss the clutter goodbye; this switch aims to reduce litter and roadside overflowing. Each Arlington home will initially be outfitted with one large cart, but should the need arise, a smaller 65-gallon version is obtainable on request.
Those planning their week should note that trash pick-up will align with the current recycling schedule. And for the planners amongst us, the city has published a detailed calendar anticipating holiday disruptions. Service will bump a day later when holidays like New Year's and Christmas roll around, ensuring residents aren't left high and dry post-festivity.
The Ask Arlington App is the gateway to additional carts, and for those with limiting physical conditions, a door-side service is an available option. All trash must be confined within closed-lid carts and residents should heed proper cart placement to avoid any collection hiccups on the big day.
As for keeping Arlington clean between trash days, think out of sight – carts must be stored away from public view. Contact the Code Compliance Department for any special storage circumstances you might have. The transition doesn’t just aim to spruce up the city’s street view; it’s a nod to the challenges the waste industry faces, from labor shortages to weather extremes.
