Tragedy struck a quiet Illinois neighborhood when a woman discovered the bodies of her parents in their New Lenox home late Sunday night. As reported by FOX 32 Chicago, the Will County Sheriff's Office is investigating the deaths as "suspicious" after responding to a call at approximately 9:28 p.m. in the 23000 block of S. Spencer Road. The deceased, found in a second-story bedroom, was a 58-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Per a statement provided by the Will County Sheriff's Office and shared with Patch, the daughter of the victims said she had last spoken with her parents several days before discovering their lifeless bodies. Having not heard from them, she arrived at their residence to check on their well-being, only to encounter a harrowing scene.
The Will County Coroner’s Office was summoned to the home, and autopsies for the victims have been scheduled. While the identities of the man and woman are currently being withheld, officials have assured the public that the incident seems isolated and poses no ongoing threat to community safety.
Evidence collected at the scene by detectives and crime scene investigators appears to support the sheriff's conclusion that the incident was an isolated one, suggesting no broader danger directed at the public. The investigation is ongoing and will seek to unravel the circumstances that led to the couple's demise.
