Chaos erupted in downtown Miami on New Year's Day as a large crowd of teenagers turned Bayside Marketplace into a battlefield of fireworks and melees, prompting a significant police response. According to WSVN, the disorder began when juveniles set off firecrackers and multiple fights broke out, compelling Miami Police to shut down businesses in the popular shopping area and close off adjacent streets for safety.

A witness, Eduardo Thompson, told WSVN, "They just started fighting," as he described the teenagers as "just got crazy." Frantic scenes were captured on social media, showing the youths running through streets, setting off firecrackers, and engaging in physical confrontations.

CBS Miami reports that four arrests were made in connection with the evening's events. Two juveniles were charged with burglary, grand theft, battery, and resisting arrest without violence, while another two were charged with resisting an officer without violence. The police believe that an assault on a driver by about 15 teens in the same vicinity was related to the earlier chaos at the marketplace.

Ryan Landy, a resident overlooking Bayside, recounted his experience to CBS Miami, saying, "We heard a lot of successive shots or pops, I don't want to say exactly for sure right after new years, it could have been fireworks, I'm not sure." He further described the frenzied arrival of police and emergency services as the scene escalated.

Although the initial blockage of Biscayne Boulevard between Second and Fourth Street has since been lifted, the incident left a lasting mark on residents and businesses in the area who were trying to enjoy the holiday. Thankfully, no injuries were reported despite the widespread fear and disruption caused by the rambunctious teenagers.
