Donut Villa, the renowned local diner chain celebrated for its brunch and late-night speakeasy atmosphere, has bid farewell to its Newtonville establishment. Reports surfaced this past weekend that the spot at 344 Walnut Street was locked up tight.
According to Boston Restaurant Talk, the lights were out and doors closed at the Donut Villa on both Friday and Saturday. The Newtonville branch, which pitched its tent in the former Brewer's Coalition space last fall, has vanished from the diner's website too—an all but certain nail in the coffin for the short-lived establishment.
It prided itself on "elevating [d] the diner experience" while keeping cozy, "comfy vibes," as described on its official website. With a "scratch, Chef-led kitchen", Donut Villa aimed to serve up a mishmash of modern and retro, questioning the culinary status quo with its "million dollar question, 'Brunch for dinner? Cocktails for Brunch? Or Both?'."
Donut Villa's other locations in Malden, Cambridge, and a newer shop in Arlington, will continue operating, perhaps, to pick up the slack.
