Bullets flew in San Ysidro, leading to one man dead and two others injured in an early morning shooting, police say. The gunfire erupted around 4:07 AM in the 100 block of East Calle Primera near a motel, while a third victim was discovered near a gas station along the I-5 freeway. San Diego's Southern Division officers, after receiving the distress call, rushed to the scene, and the victims were hurried to local hospitals, according to an official release.
According to the San Diego Police Department's statement, a Hispanic male in his 30s was pronounced dead at the hospital following multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso, suffering from a fate sealed by violence. The other victims, aged 31 and 20, also Hispanic males, are expected to survive with multiple and single gunshot wounds, respectively. While their identities are known to the investigators, only the deceased's identity remains unconfirmed, and the survivors' names are being withheld at this juncture.
San Diego Homicide Detectives are piecing together the puzzle, having taken over the investigation and collecting evidence still fresh on the ground. The early word on the street is that the suspect knew his victims, familiar faces from the neighborhood potentially embroiled in a heated exchange leading to tragedy. "Detectives believe there was some sort of argument or confrontation that led up to the shooting," the police statement alluded, while the full story is yet to unravel.
Witnesses last saw the suspect, described as a Hispanic male in dark clothing, escaping the carnage in a white sedan, but the search is ongoing with no further details to the public. The authorities encourage anyone who might have a piece of the puzzle, however small, to come forward, reaching out to the Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers, as urged in the police statement.
