A coalition of state attorneys general has thrown its weight behind Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's drive to clamp down on what they term as President Biden's fostering of "crisis-level illegal immigration." More than two dozen states applauded Texas's efforts to reinforce its southern border security, underscoring a collective dissatisfaction with federal immigration policy enforcement.
In a public display of solidarity, these legal officers have penned a letter lauding Governor Greg Abbott and AG Paxton for their "dedication to securing the border and exercising her right of self-defense" against the inflow of undocumented migrants. "The invasion, encouraged by Biden’s refusal to follow federal statutory law, is the biggest threat facing this country," Paxton said. "Texas will continue doing everything in her power to close the border and protect America," according to Ken Paxton Attorney General of Texas website.
AG Paxton has been at the forefront, challenging the Biden Administration's handling of border security and immigration enforcement frequently in the courts. He has notably countered the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's requests to stand down Texas's border security measures at certain entry points, characterizing such demands as "baseless." Texas stands firm in its resolve, rejecting calls to surrender control of pivotal areas such as Shelby Park.
The statement from the attorneys general coalition brings direct address to President Biden and DHS Secretary Mayorkas. It cautions: "What you should do is simple: enforce the law and protect the border. And despite some recent suggestions that you should nationalize control of the Texas National Guard as a ruse, we would like to remind you that you cannot do so without legal authority that you currently lack. If you cannot bring yourselves to enforce the law, get out of the way so Texas can," as per Ken Paxton Attorney General of Texas Official Website.
