A Pacific Beach hotspot for pizza lovers and beer enthusiasts, Hoboken Pizza & Beer Joint, is preparing to permanently shut its doors after 20 years of service. Citing a multitude of financial pressures, the family-owned business announced the decision to say goodbye on both their Facebook page and an Instagram post, as reported by local news outlets.

According to Fox 5, several external factors including "the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, escalating food prices, the rise in the minimum wage, and the soaring costs of retail rent and operations," have made it near impossible to continue operations. The owners intend to allow patrons to grab their final slice up until Sunday, January 28th, as their final day in business.

Since 2003, Hoboken Pizza & Beer Joint has been a beloved niche in the neighborhood's social scene, well-known for its New Jersey-style pizza slices and its broad selection of beers. It has served not just as an eatery, but as a vital venue for community events and charitable efforts. Its role went beyond serving food; it became an integral part of the Pacific Beach landscape.

"We want to express our deepest gratitude to our loyal employees who have been the backbone of this establishment," the owners noted in a heartfelt message. The staff's dedication over the years was a key component in creating a place that was much more than a typical pizzeria. The company's commitment to their employees is clear; the building's owners aim to retain some of the Hoboken staff while they plan to open a new pizza joint in the same location, and to keep a portion of the Hoboken menu favorites.

For a business that has thrived on customer relations, this farewell is particularly poignant. "Your loyalty and patronage have been the driving force behind our success, and we are truly grateful for the relationships we’ve built with each one of you," the owners expressed to their customers. With the days counting down, Pacific Beach residents and pizza aficionados will have to find a new place to congregate and enjoy a slice and a pint.
