A Chicago man on parole is charged with attempted murder after a vicious attack on a 61-year-old woman aboard a CTA Red Line train, leaving her on a ventilator and fighting for her life.

Mijawon Johnson, 36, is accused of pummeling the unsuspecting woman with closed fists to the point of coma with multiple broken ribs. According to a Chicago Tribune report, the incident occurred last week and Johnson was already on parole for armed robbery at the time of the attack.

Prosecutors have slapped Johnson with one count of attempted murder with a strong probability of death, two counts of aggravated battery, and a misdemeanor for violating an order of protection — not related to his latest alleged victim. Johnson, previously convicted for armed robbery was paroled in August 2023.

The injured woman was discovered unresponsive on a train car at around 1:30 a.m. near the Roosevelt station. "CTA workers first found the woman seriously injured on a train car," the WLS reported, she had contusions and a cut to her face and was promptly taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Johnson's next court appearance is set for January 12, following a directive from Cook County Circuit Court Judge William Fahy to keep him detained.
