A teenage boy’s reckless handling of a firearm turned fatal for a 15-year-old Phoenix girl, Daniella Espinosa, who was shot and killed in her own home late Sunday night. In a tragic mishap, the suspect, a 17-year-old boy regarded as a close friend of the family and one having lived with them intermittently, is now charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and weapons charges, as reported by 12 News.
Struggling to soak in the grim reality, the family recounted to Arizona's Family, Daniella’s vibrant personality. "Her smile just brought everyone together, we're going to miss her," her aunt Marina Gonzales remembered. While initially thought to be an accident, the family is now questioning the circumstances surrounding the shooting, unsure why the teen would harm someone he considered family.
The stepmother of the deceased, who witnessed the calamity brewing just a few feet away, described the heart-wrenching moment when, "My daughter Daniella was sitting here on the edge of the couch and the suspect was standing here," gesturing to the eerie emptiness that accompanied the aftermath. Additionally, even the bullet marked its presence by injuring Daniella's brother who was adjacent to her during the shooting. The chaos ensued with a frantic rush to the hospital, but all efforts were in vain as Daniella succumbed to her injuries.
In the wake of the tragedy, the community is rallying around the Espinosa family through efforts like a GoFundMe campaign to help with funeral expenses for the girl who "had her whole life ahead of her" and whose vivacity was extinguished too soon by a deadly accident. To support the family in these trying times, donations can be made through the GoFundMe page set up in her memory.
