Thieves were caught on camera dragging a safe out of a Sausalito business in what police are calling a 'bold commercial burglary'. The crime took place in the early hours of Monday, January 8, around the cozy streets of the city's downtown business district.

According to a statement released by the Sausalito Police Department, the incident occurred between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. at a business located on the 600 block of Bridgeway. The suspects, still at large, were captured by surveillance cameras first entering the business, and then one of them proceeded to prowl around the premises, until they found the safe.

Once the safe was located it was hauled outside where a second suspect helped lift it into a vehicle that was, conspicuously double-parked nearby. Officials believe that several passersby may have witnessed the event, as it unfolded on what would have been a quiet morning in the business district.

The police are urging potential witnesses to come forward. "Investigators reviewed video surveillance and observed that a few citizens were walking by the place of business as the two suspects were carrying the safe to the waiting vehicle," the Sausalito Police Department reported. Despite the early hour of the operation, the visibility of the crime has led the police to believe that the thieves were seen by, members of the community.

Those with any information about the burglary or who observed suspicious behavior on the identified date and time are requested to contact the Sausalito Police Department at (415) 289-4170. The business and the amount that was stolen have not been disclosed at this time.
