The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) is urgently seeking assistance from the public in locating a missing man deemed to be endangered. Edwin Hartley Jr., 72, has been missing since Wednesday evening when he was last seen at a local laundromat on Southwest Vermont Street. PPB's Missing Persons Unit stated that Hartley, who is battling depression and confusion, has not been seen or heard from since roughly 7:00 p.m. on January 24, 2024.
An extensive search is underway for the elderly man, whom authorities and family members worry about given his medical conditions. According to KPTV, Hartley's wife discovered he was missing after he failed to return from the trip to the laundromat. She later learned from the laundromat staff that her husband left the premises that evening, prompting immediate concern.
Hartley is described as a Caucasian male, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 196 pounds. He was last observed wearing a gray jacket, navy shirt, and blue jeans. Notably, Hartley depends on contacts for his vision and wears hearing aids. Of particular concern is the possibility that he may be driving a 2012 silver Toyota Prius with Oregon license plate 831FRK.
The Portland Police Bureau is requesting that anyone with information or who spots Hartley to please come forward and call 911. This information comes as both the police and Hartley's family members implore the community for support in ensuring his safe return.
