Portland streets got a little safer this weekend after a sharp crackdown by North Precinct cops, who swarmed high-crime hotspots resulting in a dozen collars and multiple vehicle recoveries. The proactive sting, zeroing in on the Parkrose, Argay, and Cully neighborhoods, involved a crew of PPB's Detectives Division, K9 units, and officials from the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office working in tandem to thwart lawlessness, as detailed in a police news release by Portland Police Bureau.
During their weekend patrol, officers pursued a suspect in a non-plated work truck who attempted to flee. Despite the suspect's attempt to escape on foot, the officers skillfully apprehended him, adding charges like Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle and Eluding Police to his existing warrants.
In another decisive move by law enforcement, a traffic stop in the Cully area clamped down on a wanted felon — found lounging with a stash of 92 pills and more than a sprinkle of powdered fentanyl tallying up to 7.36 grams. The rogue's run ended in charges adding up to the trifecta of Possession, Delivery, and Manufacture of a Controlled Substance, cementing the mission's robust clampdown on the narcotics trade.
By the time the weekend wrapped, the numbers did the chest-thumping: 27 stops, 12 are now behind bars the tally didn't stop there, 5 got tickets to remember the rendezvous by, 22 warrants were served, 6 unruly vehicles left their owners in the lurch, and 3 stolen rides were reeled back in from the abyss of illicit commerce. The North Precinct has affirmed convictions to keeping this momentum going, pledging ongoing sorties as part of its “proactive enforcement missions” throughout the year, this grip on crime planting seeds for a rejuvenated community fabric that rolls out a welcome mat everyone can trust.
