A gruesome scene played out in Quincy, Massachusetts, over the past weekend as a local man attempted to commit an act of animal cruelty by trying to set a trapped raccoon ablaze. According to the Quincy Police Department, the suspect identified as Andrew Chieu, 63, has been charged with animal cruelty after officers arrived at his Royal Street residence to find the distressed animal.
The confrontation sparked between two neighbors, as reported by NBC Boston, escalated further when officers witnessed video evidence of Chieu intentionally building a fire to heat a tin can enough, and then mercilessly placing the caged animal on top of it. The indictment came swiftly on Tuesday as Chieu was arraigned in Quincy District Court in light of the barbaric incident.
The raccoon sustained burns but has miraculously survived the ordeal and is currently receiving care at a local animal hospital. The animal's condition remains a matter of concern, with details about the full extent of its injuries not immediately clear. This ongoing investigation has revealed Chieu's apparent disregard for the well-being of a living creature, as stated in the coverage by Boston 25 News. Authorities have confirmed that the raccoon was taken by a Quincy Animal Control Officer to get urgently needed medical attention after being found with burn injuries.
While Chieu’s motives remain currently unknown, the community has been shocked by the cruelty exhibited by this act. Quincy Police continue to fully investigate the details surrounding this case, ensuring that justice is being served for the harm inflicted upon the animal.
