Redwood City Police scored a hit against crime this past weekend when their surveillance tech nabbed a local man for firearm violations connected to an earlier reckless driving case. A high-tech Flock camera system, which feeds stolen and wanted vehicle details to patrolling officers, flagged down a suspect vehicle parked on the 600 block of Veterans Boulevard on January 28, just after 8 PM.
The Redwood City Police Department swooped in on the vehicle, already earmarked for towing due to its link to a prior incident. Officers discovered a loaded 9mm handgun and pieces of an assault rifle, including a high-capacity 100-round drum magazine, during a standard inventory check of the towed car. Edgar Franco, 35, from Redwood City, was determined to own these items, despite their questionable legality for someone with his background, according to a statement from the Redwood City Police Department.
Franco, already on bail for a separate felony charge, found himself under arrest once police confirmed the link between him and the discovered firearms—which were legally off-limits due to his felon status. The presence of a firearm with an obliterated serial number in his possession added to his charges. He now faces the legal repercussions of being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and committing a felony while on bail.
