An early morning inferno tore through a Milton, Massachusetts, residence on Monday Firefighters were called to the scene at 79 Hillside Street around 7 a.m. and faced with a single individual on the porch who managed to quickly evade the flames, as reported by NBC Boston.

According to Boston 25 News, aerial footage captured dense white smoke and firefighters working to bring the blaze under control.

Fire Chief Christopher Madden conveyed to WCVB the hurdles faced by the crew, stating, "Tried to make an interior attack. Difficult conditions on the inside made them go to the outside, hit it defensively,"

The obstacles didn't stop at dense smoke and fire, as the cold weather added an extra layer of difficulty for crews. Madden remarked on the adverse conditions, telling WCVB, "The weather always makes it difficult. Makes it slippery for our firefighters. Other than that, no issues right now,” A preliminary investigation suggested that the home's clutter may have contributed to the intensity of the fire, complicating the firefighters to combat the flames.

While the cause of the fire is still pending investigation, it appears to have originated from the rear of the house. State police fire investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s office are assisting in the investigation. "Until we actually get in there and overhaul and find out where the scene of the fire was, and what started it, we'll get a better judge," Madden told WCVB. The home was significantly damaged, and it remains unclear what will become of the property in the wake of the incident.
