Riverside County has secured a place among the nation's leaders in digital inclusivity, snagging the prestigious 2023 Digital Inclusion Trailblazer award from the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA), according to a recent Riverside County News Release. The accolade not only reflects the county's innovative steps in making high-speed internet and digital literacy more accessible but also solidifies its commitment to ensuring that every resident can harness the benefits of our tech-driven era.
Paving the way for digital equity, Riverside County's initiatives are not just a reaction to the urgent needs of pandemic times they build on a foundation laid by foresighted programs such as the RivcoConnect initiative and the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) Outreach Campaign, which, to date, connects over 207,363 low-income families to affordable internet services, revealed in the press release.
According to the news release, Riverside County's position on the frontline of digital inclusion is bolstered by its Broadband Master Plan, published in August 2023, which thoroughly sketches out strategies to hook up all its 2.47 million residents to high-speed, reliable, and affordable broadband, ensuring no corner of its vast jurisdiction is left in the digital dark. Complementing this, the county's Digital Equity Program spotlights RivcoConnect's philanthropic side, donating computers for those completing digital literacy training—an apt example of government and nonprofit entities synergizing for the common good.
Riverside’s comprehensive approach integrates multichannel marketing and a dedicated multilingual hotline to aid enrollment. The impact of these measures earned the county recognition as one of the 22 Visionary Digital Inclusion Trailblazers out of 47 such awardees nationwide. Through these concerted efforts, Riverside emerges as a true champion for inclusion in a society where virtual connections increasingly dictate opportunities.
