Round Rock foodies, get your appetites ready, a new player is entering the culinary scene. Ghama Zone Korean Food, a traditional yet contemporary Korean restaurant, is set to open its doors at 118 East Main Street on February 1 according to the Texas if Life report. The establishment promises to cater to various palates with a blend of authentic Korean fare and modern twists on classic dishes.
Among the appetizing starters, customers can look forward to Ghama’s unique take on inari sushi – pockets swapping out nori for bean curd, stuffed with rice and various fillings such as kimchi shrimp, pork, and bulgogi. Other appetizer options include kimbap, the Korean answer to sushi rolls available in a range of fillings like spicy chicken and vegan, and a collection of gnocchi or skewered snacks. According to Eater Austin, the menu also features fried chicken, a potato pancake with truffles, and a variety of seafood pancakes to kick off the dining experience.
Diving into heartier options, Ghama Zone is dishing up a selection of Jjim dishes, notably the Jjimdak, or Korean braised chicken, and the classic galbi Jjim, which features tender braised short ribs. Those with a penchant for spice might gravitate towards the fiery Dak Galbi or settle into the comfort of beef rib soup and other hot pots crafted for a hearty meal. The chef and owner, Peter Kim, aims to "expand Korean food and culture" and creates a "traditional and modern cozy-vibe restaurant that tires to serve higher end but affordable dishes," as Eater Austin reports.
The culinary journey doesn’t end at the main courses. Dessert offerings tempt with treats like hotteok ice cream and sweet tteok, while a variety of unique Korean wines and sakes, alongside classic beers, and nonalcoholic options round out the dining experience. Ghama’s opening date, teasing limited service initially for those eager to indulge in these culinary delights indoors or to enjoy via takeout.
This particular spot in Round Rock, known to locals as the previous home of Mexican restaurant Eltakobar, is now gearing up for a new flavor profile with Ghama Zone’s arrival. So, as the calendar flips to February, it's time to mark those calendars and prep those taste buds for a journey to Korea, Texas-style.
